Small children drive home the message against corruption.

Corruption in the modern times has deeply affected our society. It is a social as well as economic evil in the present day societal sphere. Rampant corruption in the daily life of Indians has taken a demonic shape so much that no work is accomplished without offering some kickback or favour to the opposite party/individual. To raise awareness against corruption in the young minds of small children, Itikili Mitikili Foundation had recently organized a painting competition at the Pathani Samanta Planetarium in Bhubaneswar. The theme of the competition was No to Corruption and Corruption Free India.

More than 200 Students participated in the competition and painted various themes depicting different viewpoints and ideas on corruption in the society. Despite being in an early age, the kids managed to grab eyeballs throughout their unique outlook and interesting portrayal of the given theme. The competition sought to see how children perceive corruption in the surroundings around them and what distinct solutions they have in their minds. The children were divided into four groups. The kids from UKG to standard 2 were given Flower vase as a topic while the children from class 3 to 5 were given to paint garden scenes. Similarly, students in classes 6 to 9 painted on the topic ‘No to Corruption’ and students of classes 10 to 12 were given the topic ‘Corruption Free India’ to paint on.

Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited MCL, Munawar Khursheed inaugurated the competition and encouraged the young participants. “The society is at large falling prey to corruption. This unique contest of painting by young children on the theme of corruption free India is really a welcome step in raising awareness against corruption. Of the total paintings, best fifteen paintings would be chosen and printed on the next calendar of MCL in 2019. Further to raise alarm against corruption, the calendar would be distributed across various public offices and institutions” informed Mr. Khursheed.

“Corruption is a crime and one must never support or aid in corruption. If a person in a family engages in corruption, the onus is on the teachers to make small children aware of the ills of corruption” said noted children’s author and President of Itikili Mitikili Foundation Prof. Dash Benhur.

“Every year, Itikili Mitikili Foundation organizes various competitions on skills like Poetry, News reading, Singing, Drawing and Painting. The competitions are aimed to find the immense talent of children less than 18 years of age and recognize and reward them at the Annual Itikili Mitikili Utsav. It has been 23 years since we have been organizing such events. The theme of this year was against corruption and we are thankful to the Vigilance Department of Mahandadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) for supporting us this time. In the previous years too, we have held successful competitions on relevant topics like Smart City in 2015, Nabakalebara in 2016 and more recently on the Paika Rebellion in 2017” informed General Secretary of Itikili Mitikili Foundation Sarat Kumar Nayak.
