Tata Global Beverages Limited (TGBL) has signed an Letter of Intent (LOI) with Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Limited (TSSEZL) for setting up a tea packaging unit in the state soon. The plant will be set up at the cost of Rs 100 crore and will generate employment for 650 people. The unit will be set up in the Gopalpur Industrial park having the capacity of 36 crore kilograms.

Inking Pact

The LOI was exchange between S S Malhotra, Vice President, Operations (South Asia), TGBL and Ashish Mathur, Managing Director, TSSEZL. N Chandrasekaran, Tata Group Chairman, T V Narendran, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel and other senior officials of the company were present during the event. The tea packaging plant will cater to TGBL’s Indian market and is scheduled to be operational by 2020. It will be operated by a third-party operator, nominated by TGBL.

Gopalpur Industrial Park

Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Limited, a complete subsidiary of Tata Steel Ltd, is developing its flagship industrial park in the state as Gopalpur Industrial Park. The company plans to develop the industrial park as the emerging manufacturing hub both for domestic and export oriented industries.

“Gopalpur Industrial Park is located on National Highway 16 near Berhampur. With plug and play infrastructure, multi-modal logistics connectivity, ready environmental clearance and clear land title, Gopalpur Industrial park is emerging as the preferred investment destination in the country,” an official in context to the development said.

Industries So Far

Gopalpur is now a hub to 55,000 tonnes per annum (TTPA) Ferro Chrome plant by Tata Steel, a defense manufacturing unit by Sure Safety Solutions Private Limited and a metal based manufacturing unit by BS Minerals Private Limited are operating in the Industrial Park.

TSSEZL has been engaging with other potential investors across the country and abroad and expects to firm up agreements with some of the companies shortly.
