Festival to showcase Odisha outside the home state
Odia Samaj is going to organize “Odisha Parba” at Surat, in Gujarat from 1st to 2nd September 2018. After holding the event in New Delhi for two consecutive years in 2017 & 2018 the two day celebration will be held at Surat International Exhibition & Convention Centre (SIECC), Sarsana, Surat, Gujarat. The event will showcase Odisha through Music & Dance, Traditional Arts & Crafts, Rich History & Heritage, and Authentic Food & Cuisine.
Attractions at the event
A replica of the ‘Rath’ (chariot) used in the famous Puri Rath Yatra will be displayed inside the entrance gate and Intricate appliqué work and pattachitra designs of Odisha will add colour to the decoration. Live cultural performances on both evenings of the festival have been lined up. A film tracing Odisha’s struggle against the British will be played at the function. For an authentic feel, an exclusive stall has been set up for sale of Jagannath Bhoga at the venue.
Food Court
Food court serving authentic Odia cuisine under four categories like Jalkhia, Meetha, Pitha and Bhojan (thali) have been planned. Odia meetha, pitha, Badi, papad, aachar, ghuguni, dahibara, chat, Odia thali, Odia paan from different corners of Odisha including Ganjam, Cuttack, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj districts are sure to remind one of the aroma of one’s kitchen back home.
Handlooms and Handicrafts Haat
Around 15 stalls in Handlooms and Handicrafts Haat shall showcase various crafts and weaves from all corners of the state. Traditional handloom Sarees and dress materials from Kotpad, Barpalli, Bargarh, Berhampur, Sonepur etc. besides Khorda Lungi and Gamchha shall be on sale in the Odisha Parba.
Popular art and crafts including Dhokra, Appliqué, Silver filigree, Pattachitra, Paper Mache, wood craft, shell craft, jute items etc. by award winning artisans and weavers would be displayed for both Odia and non-Odia residents of Surat and nearby towns in Gujarat.
Cultural Evenings
Dance and music shows on Odisha’s various traditional Folk, Odissi, fusion, contemporary dance forms will be performed by eminent artists during the two-day event. Odissi Dance Academy, Surat, Stand-up comedy by Kuna Tripathy, Live Music Show by Krishna Beura, Abhijit Majumdar, Babu Panigrahi & Group would enthral the audiences.
Fusion Odisha Classical & Garba Dance by Jeevan Bharti Sangeet Vidyalaya & Odissi Dance Academy, Surat would lend a traditional appeal. Sambalpuri Folk Dance with Live Music by Western Odisha Folklore Research Institute, Bargarh, Odisha would resound with fervour while noted Odia singer Susmita Das would sing Odia Songs.
Contemporary Dance by M D Shafiul Hauq (babu) and Group, Paika Rebellion Dance drama by Durga Prasad Barik & Group and Jagannath Mahima dance drama by Gajendra Panda & Group are slated to be staged. Folk dances like Animal Mask Dance & Gahani, Jodi Shankha and Ranappa, Ghanta Parba & Bonda Tribal dance and Oshakothi & Putula Dance would also be performed.
