SpicMacay Odisha Chapter is organising Yamini 2018, the all-night concert on 27th October at Bhubaneswar

YAMINI 2018

Overnight classical music concert Yamini 2018 will start from 7:00pm at Institute Of Physics Auditorium, near Apollo Hospital, Bhubaneswar. Indian classical music artists of international repute will enthrall the audiences in the concert. “We get some of the topmost artists and give a chance to the participants, mostly students, to experience the abstract and mystical aspects of our heritage. This is the 4th year we are organizing Yamini in Bhubaneswar”, said Mrs Babita Mishra, SpicMacay Odisha Chapter Coordinator.

Renowned artists like Percussionist Vikku Vinayakram, Sitar maestro Purbayan Chatterjee, Hindustani Vocalist Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Sarangi legend Sabir Khan and Hindustani Vocalist Raja Miyan are set to perform at the concert. Yamini promises to be an enthralling night with performances by maestros of Indian Classical Music. Yamini meaning ‘Night’, is the night that descends on gently, slowly, to the mellifluous notes of music and the rhythm of their ragas. Yamini traces her journey from night to dawn, with an eclectic mix of Indian Classical Music performances on a single dais.

Yamini 2018 in Bhubaneswar - pre event talk

Prior to the concert, there is a pre event talk on 26 October featuring, Prof Dr Kiran Seth, Founder of SpicMacay and Mr Subroto Bagchi, Co-founder, Mindtree and Chairman, Odisha Skill Development Authority. The talk will be followed by Hindustani Vocal recital by Ustad Raja Miyan.

SPICMACAY

Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY) aims to increase awareness about different aspects of Indian heritage and inspiring the young mind to imbibe the values embedded in it. It seeks to inspire youth through experiencing the mysticism embodied in the rich and heterogeneous cultural canvas of Indian heritage, with a hope that the beauty, grace, values and wisdom embodied in these arts will influence their way of life and thinking and inspire one to become a better human being.

Vidwan Vikku Vinayakram

Thetakudi Harihara Vinayakram also dearly known as Vikku Vinayakram, is a Grammy Award–winning Indian percussionist. He plays Carnatic music with the ghatam, an earthen pot, and is credited with popularising the ghatam.He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2002, and later bestowed the highest honour in the performing arts conferred by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India’s National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama, the 2012 Sangeet NatakAkademi Fellowship. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2014.

Purbayan Chatterjee

Purbayan Chatterjee is an Indian sitar maestro who is noted for amalgamating traditional Indian classical music with contemporary world music genres. He was a recipient of the President of India Award for being the Best Instrumentalist of the country at the tender age of 15. He has also received the Aditya Vikram Birla Award for excellence and contributions to the field. He comes from a family steeped in the classical music tradition.

Vidushi Ashwini Bhide Deshpande 

Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, an outstanding vocalist of the famed “Jaipur-Atrauli” Khayal Gayaki tradition, represents the new generation of veterans worthy of wearing the mantle of the old masters.Born in a musical family, Ashwini completed “Sangeet Visharad” of the “Gandharva Mahavidyalaya” at the young age of 16 and won the President’s Gold Medal at the All India Radio Music Competition in 1977.

Ustad Sabir Khan 

Sabir Khan is a renowned Indian Sarangi player and son of Legendary Sarangi player and vocalist Padma Bhushan late Ustad Sultan Khan. Born in Jodhpur he was trained under his father and uncle Ustad Nasir Khan. His great grandfather Ustad Azim Khan was a court musician at Sikar. He belongs to Sikar gharana of music who have given several stalwarts to Indian classical music. He has been awarded with the prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar from Sangeet Natak Akademi.

Ustad Raja Miyan

Ghulam Husnain Khan affectionately known as Raja Miyan was born in an illustrious family of traditional musicians of the Agra Gharana. He is the son of Ustad Anwar Hussian Khan, a famous artiste of the gharana. Absorbing the best of the Agra Gharana, Raja Miyan was groomed to present the beauty in bandish, with a special love for both, sur and bol, mixed with a fine sense of laya. The title of “Sur Mani” was conferred on him by the prestigious Sur SingarSamsad. He is also a regular performer on AIR and Doordarshan.
