Pahandi Bije is the royal journey of deities to the world outside. It starts from Puri Mandir to chariot .This Pahandi means “take a step”. Bije which stands for procession of the king of the Lords. This Pahandi Bije of Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra is very beautiful to see.
The going forward in a step by step movement with thousand number of devotees beating the ghantas, kahali and telingi baja. Basically this “Pahandi” happens during Ratha Yatra (Car Festival). The first form is called “Dhadi Pahandi”(to walk in a line). The second form is known as “Goti Pahandi” (individual moves) describes the movement of the Gods. “Goti Pua” (Dance Form), is a type of famous dance form which takes place during Pahandi Bije time in front of the deities at Singdwara.
There are many musical instruments playing at that time, like the clang of the ghantas, blowing of kahali and the beating of the Telingi Baja. This “Telingi Baja” is a unique rhythmic movement. Not only Goti Pua dance but also there are many religious dances along with music is performed in front of deities. It indicates there are no differences of religion and all are one in the eyes of Lord.
