The concept safe water: every child’s right hit the right note when season four of Short Film Festival on Child Rights “Kallola 2018” in collaboration with UNICEF Odisha and Aaina was announced.  Eminent personalities like Ms. Alka Gupta, Communications Specialist, UNICEF Odisha, Mr. Devidutta Mohanty Alankar TV Network, Mr. Ananta Mohapatra,eminent theater personality, Mr. Ranjan Panda, Convenor, water initiatives and Mrs. Sneha Mishra, Secretary, Aaina attended the function.

The short film contest will seek entries in the duration of 30, 60 and 90 seconds. The theme should center on water and children.  The best five films would be awarded under the first, second, third, Jury Choice and Children’s choice awards respectively. The organizers have invited professional film makers, film students, amateurs or anyone else with good film making skills.

“We know that water, its scarcity, quality and access impact everyone. The theme this year will draw attention to how the issue impacts the basic rights for children, from growing heavily, to going to school, to play to be protected” said Ms Alka Gupta in her speech.

Interested persons can log on to www.aaina.org.in/kallola for information and for registration for participation in the workshop to be held on 31st Aug 2018. 10th Oct 2018 is the last date for registry.

 “We are looking forward to fourth edition of Kallola with a hope to receive more number of films from film makers. It’s encouraging to see increasing number of participation in Kallola” said Ms Sneha Mishra.

Mr. Ananta Mohapatra  said “Have you ever thought that a safe and healthy childhood can be forever destroyed with drastic implications for lack of water? It is high time we realize the judicious use of water for our children and future generations.”

Mr. Ranjan Panda stressed the need for proper planning and implementation of resources as India is already a water starved nation. “By 2030, water demand of the country is projected to be twice the available supply” he remarked.

The themes covered in last three seasons are Ending Violence against Children and Ending Discrimination against Girls and End Violence against Children…Soch Badlo. These short films are in the category of Public Service Advertisements. 30, 60 and 90 seconds are made pro bono by the filmmakers. Till date 95 filmmakers have participated and 15 films awarded.
