A marathon was flagged off from Lengu Mishra Stadium of Bargarh on the occasion of World Cancer Day. The marathon was organised by the ‘Fighters Group’ of Bargarh. This is a group of cancer survivors. Hundreds of runners including students, social workers and renowned personalities of Bargarh took part in the marathon.

The event began with a meeting where guests expressed their concern over the growing number of cancer cases in Bargarh district. As per reports, out of the total number of cancer cases in Odisha, more than 60% cancer patients are from Western Odisha and majority of the patients of Western Odisha are from Bargarh district. Experts believe the excessive use of pesticides in crop leads to high incidence of cancer.

The marathon witnessed a huge turnout. The participants ran with enthusiasm for a good cause. They were seen holding placards having messages on cancer awareness. Runners urged the public to shun the use of plastic. The members of the Fighters Group thanked the volunteers for the huge support.
