Odisha Industries Department held a round table discussion on Development of Business Ecosystem for Secondary Route Steel Manufacturing.

The aim of the meeting was to meet with Sponge Iron Manufacturers and discuss various opportunities and issues. The meeting further impressed upon the existing Sponge Iron plant owners, the need for up gradation of their plants to Steel manufacturing units for which the Industries department is willing to play the role of a catalyst with the required facilitation support to these units.

The meeting kick-started with a presentation on all the various business reforms shedding light on the facilitation mechanisms institutionalized by the Industries Department. This was followed by a discussion with the leaders of all sponge manufactures of the state. More than 40 sponge iron manufactures were present in the meeting and discussed.

MSME

It was highlighted the significant investment opportunities will be available in primary and downstream steel-making capacity. India is expected to witness significant growth in finished steel demand from 91 million tonnes in 2017-18 to 230 MT by 2030-31. This presents a huge opportunity for sponge iron manufacturers to forward integrate into primary and downstream steel making, thereby creating more value in this sector.

The meeting was co-chaired by Shri. Sanjay Singh, CMD, Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) and was attended by Dr. Nitin B. Jawale, Managing Director, Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL), Sri. Debidutt Biswal, Member Secretary of State Pollution Control Board. The senior officials from State Level Facilitation Cell (SLFC), Odisha State Pollution Control Board, Directorate of Factories & Boilers, Department of Water Resource, Department of Energy, EIC (Electricity) cum-PCEI were also present in addition to senior officials from IPICOL and IDCO.
