Harvest Festival of Nuakhai celebrated by NRO community in London
Nuakhai Bhetghat was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the South Ruislip Community Center in North London, UK. Nearly 200 people, wearing beautiful Sambalpuri attires, mostly families from Odisha, attended from all over the UK.
Veteran Doctor Dr. Madhu Kundu and Mr. Soumendra Mohapatra, Secretary at the Indian High Commission were the esteemed guests for the event.
The event began with prayers being offered to Maa Samlei for universal wellbeing. It was followed Samlei bhajan and as per the custom, all the elderly people were honoured and presented with mementoes. The star attractions at the celebration was the famous Rangabati dance, performed by a group of ladies, led by Reena Meher, who had earlier performed at the Nehru Center in London. There were performances by children and resident Odias of UK.
Little children were seen dressed up in colourful costumes as part of the fancy dress competition. Few senior members of the group also performed a funny meme dance that stole the show.
A sum of money was collected for charity through raffle which will be used for a good cause in Odisha, the organisers inform.
