 Odisha, which has got a major chunk of Bauxite reserve in the country, is going to host the international aluminium conference for the first time.

The 7th International conference on Aluminium (INCAL) is going to be held in the Temple City Bhubaneswar from 31st January to 3rd February 2019. The conference, a flagship event of ‘Aluminium Association of India’ (AAI), has set the theme as ‘Making Aluminium – Driving Growth and Development’.

Dr Tapan Kumar Chand, the CMD of the aluminium giant NALCO and president of the Aluminium Association of India (AAI) has advised Team AAI to make all preparations so that the event will be meaningful in terms of both business and the personal experience of all the delegates coming from various states of India and overseas.

INCAL 2019 is getting ready to welcome over 800 delegates including professionals and aluminium experts from all over the globe and preparations are set to highlight Odisha as a global production and business destination of Aluminium. Apart from National Aluminium Company (NALCO), a Navratna enterprise of Govt. of India and an industrial marvel of Odisha, global aluminium leaders like Vedanta and Aditya Birla are playing an important role in making INCAL 2019 a grand activity. The event will encompass serious business deliberations and an exhibition.

The international conference is supported by Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, the apex authority in the country. The organising committee of INCAL 2019 features top business leaders of the Indian aluminium industry where Dr Tapan Kumar Chand is holding the position of the Chairman and Satish Pai, MD, Hindalco Industries (also the Vice President, AAI) with Samir Cairae, CEO Metal (India), Vedanta Resources Plc are the co-chairmen of this global event. Pratapaditya Mishra, Addl Director General of the Association is playing the role of Conference Coordinator, this year.

Every 4 to 5 years, Aluminium Association of India (AAI) organizes international conference to bring professionals & experts and the industry leaders from the field together to discuss and exchange ideas in terms of upcoming industrial trends, technology and carve a plan for progressive and sustainable growth of the Aluminium Industry. The first conference was held in the year 1985. Since then it has become Asia’s one of the major events in the sector.

As per the official information made available to OdishaLIVE, this conference intends to focus on the key topics like; Bauxite and Alumina (including special Alumina and Hydrates), Aluminium and Carbon products, Downstream, Emerging Applications of aluminium (including Alloys and Composites) and Recycling; Waste Disposal and Utilization, Environment and Energy, Research & Development and Technology development including New Technology, Equipment in Aluminium Industry, Raw materials and Logistics and Market, Sustainability and Policies etc.

In fact, India contributes 3% of total aluminium production in the whole world making it the 8th largest aluminium producer on the globe. India is blessed with one of the world’s largest Bauxite reserves from which aluminium is produced. Moreover, India has an efficient number of aluminium plants that comprises of smelting plants, extrusion plants, alumina refineries, FRP plants, Aluminium foil plants, and wire rod plants. According to Dr Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD NALCO and President Aluminium Association of India, the country is all set to increase its aluminium production in the coming years. In this context, Odisha, being a major aluminium producing destination, is going to play a strategic role in the growth of the industry.

Thus, INCAL 2019 will bring an opportunity for the industry leaders and key stakeholders to discuss and design the road ahead with a mandate to strategize the sustainable development of the sector, globally.

 Today, aluminium is considered as an effective element which is in high demand across sectors and products. It is very much lighter in comparison to iron, but equally strong as steel. On top of that, it is extremely flexible, resistant to corrosion and economically efficient which makes the metal heavily used in the sectors like construction, transportation, electrical, retail, medical, defence industry and aerospace sector etc.

Some of the top aluminium companies of India include NALCO, Vedanta, Hindalco, Bharat Aluminium Company, Jindal Aluminium, Hind Aluminium, Manaksia Aluminium which are constantly working on their R&D strategies to be a part of the industrial global revolution. In order to meet the needs of the aluminium industry in India and to form an alliance with the foreign players, the Aluminium Association of India (AAI) was formed in 1981.
