Barnali Hota is a fresh sensation in the Odia music scene. OdishaLIVE probes into her idea and engagement with the art as a part of the series ‘Music in My Life’

Why and How did you enter in to the World of Music?

My father wanted to become a musician but his parents gave more importance to studies, so he couldn’t become one. He wants to fulfill his dreams through me & he put me into the world of music. But, as we all know until we wish to do something we can’t do it and the same happened to me. Music attracted me & with time music became my world. I don’t know what fate has in store for me, but music  and Barnali are inseparable.

How do you explain the Impact of Music in your Life?

To me, it’s more than just music, and it is involved, in some way, in every aspect of my life. The impact of music was so high that it became a part of my life from the age of 3. I have been singing from an age when all kids play with teddy bears or watch cartoons. In my case it was something different. For me, music was my teddy bear.

What is your opinion to make Music more Popular among the new generation media and audience? What role you can play in that?

It is generally seen that youth don’t like classical form of music which represents the culture of our land, but we as the future of this nation, we should hold it and not let it go. So, I want to recompose and create the melody in such a way that listeners remember it forever. Today’s generation likes what is unique or what is called “hatke”. Fusing the new and trendy elements of music into the classical can be good idea according to me. Real music should be more popularised and this is what I want to do.
