Renowned HR expert and industry consultant Bimal Rath recently came out with his book ‘Helping Managers Navigate Careers – A book of Coaching Stories’ focusing on helping senior and middle level managers to further their careers in a meaningful way by navigating through the ‘real’ environment around them.
The book provides insights and practical tools to deal with dilemmas and challenges faced by the managers in the Indian workplace model. The book is enriched with stories and narratives taken from real life, based on experiences of the author and other coaches.
These stories provide perspectives, as well as methods and tips to deal with challenges often faced by managers. It also focuses on developmental approaches, especially the use of coaching as a tool. The book is poised to be valuable for Human Resource, Talent Development Practitioners as well as Senior Leaders faced with building leadership pipelines.
Bimal is an industry veteran with experience in Human Resource Management. He is currently heading Think Talent Services and Braahmam Net Solutions. An XLRI, Jamshedpur Alumni, he has held prestigious positions in recognised corporate bodies such as Nokia, Tata Sons, British Telecom, Cadence Designs, Eicher Limited among others.
The book will go a long way in the popular category of self help books which are heavily in demand in the Indian platform.
On being asked about choosing such a topic despite being a lot written already, he said to OdishaLIVE, “There are certainly many books, but very few capture the Indian context. This book is specifically written to help middle and senior level managers and practicing coaches. It is about perspective through real cases (as against opinion only) as well as written in a style which is light enough for an average manager to go through.”
OdishaLIVE also asked him about the role of books/publications as a part of coaching and learning for today’s managers and he expresses, “I am not sure how many practicing managers actually read heavy books, at best most glance through them. Usability is the key. So the format of this book has been designed for quick and modular reading, and taking away nuggets of information and practical tools and tips which are implementable.”
The book has already got good reviews across the online and offline market space. Hopefully the book fulfils the purpose envisioned by the author.
