It’s finally the Mother’s Public School, Bhubaneswar, who bags the first prize of 1 Lakh Rupees at the marquee quiz event Mettle Meet – 2018 Grand Finale held today, at Hotel Swosti Premium. DAV Public School, CDA, Cuttack emerged as the 1st Runners Up and DAV Public School, Pokhariput, Bhubaneswar as the 2nd Runners Up winning Rupees 50 Thousand and 25 Thousand respectively as prize money.
This is the 3rd edition of Mettle Meet, which started its journey in 2016, initiated by Odisha’s only home grown English daily OrissaPOST. The prelims of the Mettle Meet were held on 31st March, where 8 teams from Junior categories were selected after a nail biting competition. The finalists in the Junior category selected to combat the final fray were Mother’s Public School, Bhubaneswar; DAV Public School, CDA, Cuttack; DAV Public School, Pokhariput, Bhubaneswar; DAV Public School, Rourkela; Blessed Sacrament High School, Puri; ODM Public School, Bhubaneswar; St. Vincent’s Convent School, Balasore and Ravenshaw Junior College, Cuttack. This year’s quiz started with 34 teams from 34 institutions competing under the Junior Group.
Mr Tathagata Satpathy, Editor, OrissaPOST congratulating the winners of Junior categories said, “it’s amazing that these kids showed such enthusiasm and tough competition. This year’s questions were the toughest so far as Mettle Meet’s history goes. So, the overall performance given by all the teams was superlative and paramount”.
The competition consisted rounds like ‘Round the Bend’, ‘The First of April’, ‘Connect-ivity’, ‘Bout March’, etc. Along with the stimulating rounds, the Buzzer Breaks and Audience Rounds were also quite thrilling.
The well-known quizmaster Venkatesh Srinivasan, popularly known as Venky passing on his good wishes to the winners of the competition informed that he would like to congratulate the winners for their stamina and continued persistence with the answers for the questions. He also added that “none of the questions have been answered by the quiz master during the rounds. All the questions have been either answered by the participants or the audience. It’s been a brilliant competition and outstanding audience”.
The maiden edition of Mettle Meet started off with 18 teams in 2016 with College of Engineering & Technology (CET) being the winner for the year. In 2017, Mettle Meet saw a participation of 45 teams where SAI International School became the champs in Junior category along with NIT, Rourkela emerging victorious in the Senior category.
This year the team members for Mother’s Public School were Soham Panda, Naibedya Amrit Dash, Utkarsh Panda and Baibhav Tripathy. Similarly, the participants of DAV Public School, CDA, Cuttack were Abhishek Rath, Krishna Aditya Mohanty, Vedant Giri and Pritam Acharya. The team from DAV Pokhriput, Bhubaneswar consisted of Sahil Nayak, Tushar Nayak, Arpan Chakravarty and Himanshu Nayak.
