The third edition of Odisha’s top quiz extravaganza Mettle Meet is just days away. The preliminary round will take place on March 31 and the Grand Finale is scheduled for April 1 at Bhubaneswar.

Top eight teams from the junior and senior segments will battle it out for the top three positions in the Grand Finale which is scheduled to be staged at a city hotel here.

Mettle Meet offers a lucrative prize money of rupees 1 lakh to the Winners with rupees 50 thousand and 25 thousand to the 1st Runner Up and 2nd Runner Up teams in the finals in both the categories.

“Mettle Meet, an initiative by Odisha’s only home-grown English daily OrissaPOST, to revive the art of quizzing in the state, is growing in stature since its inception. We hope by the next year or so, Mettle Meet would be a nationally recognised quizzing platform”, said OrissaPOST Editor, Tathagata Satpathy in an exclusive interview to OdishaLIVE.

This year, over 68 top educational institutions have come forward to participate in this grand quizzing event. “The increase in the number of teams proves that quizzing is alive among the students of Odisha and Mettle Meet has provided them a platform to compete and share the joy of Quizzing. More and more schools and colleges are joining the bandwagon of quizzing, thereby fulfilling the aim which OrissaPOST set out to achieve”, said OrissaPOST CEO Adyasha Satpathy, while speaking exclusively to OdishaLIVE. “Thus, the thrilling journey of Mettle Meet is rightly describing its tagline – Reviving Quizzing’’, she added.

Like in the past two editions, noted quizmaster Venkatesh Srinivasan, popularly called Venky, will be conducting both the prelims and the Grand Finale on March 31 and April 1 respectively. He is excited to be a part of Mettle Meet once more. “The quizzing talent pool in Odisha is simply amazing. At times they come up with stunning answers which even surprise me. The quizzers are well aware of the general developments and that makes it even more interesting to match wits against them” he said.

“We are proud to be a part of such a grand knowledge event which happens to be the brainchild of an Odisha based media house” says Nilambar Rath, Editor-in-Chief and CEO, OdishaLIVE. OdishaLIVE happens to be the Digital Media Partner for the event and is associated with the game since last 2 years promoting the youthful activities over web and social channels. “Viewers around the globe would be able to catch the whole Finale LIVE on the social channels like YouTube and Facebook” Mr. Rath adds further.

In 2016, the maiden edition of Mettle Meet started off with 18 teams. College of Engineering & Technology (CET), KIIT University and Ravenshaw Junior College took the Winners, 1st and 2nd Runners Up trophies respectively.

In 2017, SAI International School, Ravenshaw Junior College and St Joseph’s High School, Bhubaneswar took away the honours in the junior category. Similarly, in the senior round, NIT-Rourkela, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar and KIIT University emerged first, second and third among the top quizzers.

Team SAI International School, the winners in junior category in Mettle Meet 2017 was represented by Pranav Manie, Tanmoy Panigrahi, Sameer Kumar Patro and Akash Kumar Dash. “We started badly and got negative markings. Then we changed our strategy and just focused on our strong areas. That helped us to emerge champions,” Pranav recalls the moment of excitement and glory.
