CRUT created by Housing and Urban Development Dept. for specialized bus and bicycle Services

Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) by Housing & Urban Development (H & UD) Department has come up to provide public transport services in master plan areas of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri. Substantial institutional strengthening is on way to manage demands of public transport in the smart city by streamlining the bus fleets, depots, terminals, Bus Queue Shelters (BQS), etc.

Currently, CRUT is revamping transit infrastructure improvements, and reforming public transportation with introduction of smart, safe, and affordable choices like MO BUS, MO CYCLE PBS system, MO E-RIDE, and other smart mobility options in and around Bhubaneswar.

MO BUS

Under MO BUS, the plan is to roll out a fleet of 300 state-of-the art technology driven buses, in three phases. MO BUS, has unique features such as

  • CCTV cameras for on-board surveillance to stop disruptive behaviour
  • Free Wi-Fi on-board for seamless browsing.
  • GPS for online Tracking facilities.
  • Electronic Ticketing Machine (ETM) on-board, for e-ticketing facilities.
  • On-board announcement on bus stops, and Public Information System (PIS) for rider convenience.

MO CYCLE

CRUT is aiming to remove barriers to bicycling by introducing MO CYCLE Public Bicycle Sharing (PBS) system by addressing the accessibility and affordability issues. The MO CYCLE-PBS system would be coming to the city with intelligent features such as

  • Unisex bicycles
  • Adjustable seats (that double up as a child friendly feature)
  • Utility basket in the front providing riders with the freedom to offload baggage
  • GPS for easy tracking

To push for sustainable transport, it is imperative to promote bicycle use in Bhubaneswar, where rapid urbanization & growth has brought about increased use of personal motorized transport.
