The Director (academics) of Sambad Group of Institutions and principal of KMBB College of Engineering, Dr. DhanadaKanta Mishra has been nominated as a fellow of the Hong Kong Concrete Institute.

The HKCI is a professional body of civil engineers, construction practitioners, academicians, industry representatives and others. It helps disseminate the latest developments in concrete technology to promote sustainable building construction activities in one of the most advanced mega-cities of the world. It’s a rare honour for an academician from Odisha.

Currently Dr. Mishra is carrying out research in High Volume Pozzolanic Cement based materials and smart concrete. His research work based on fly ash from Odisha was appreciated at an International Environment conference held at Hyderabad in December.

Dr. Mishra will be presenting his latest results at another international conference at Tsinghua University in Beijing later this month before visiting Prof Caijun Shi’s laboratory at Hunan University in Changsha. He is slated to visit IIT Kharagpur to explore research collaboration and a 4-day summer school cum workshop in June at IIT Bhubaneswar where aspiring students and research scholars in India will participate to learn about this important area of civil engineering research in detail.

Dr. Mishra has been spending a year at the Hong Kong University of Engineering and Technology (HKUST) at Kowloon bay in Hong Kong. HKUST is one of the leading young universities in the world having been ranked 2nd among top 50 universities in the world under fifty years old. It was set up 26 years ago as a public institution with an objective to be a world class university.

Dr. Mishra is working as a research scholar on invitation from Prof Christopher Leung – a founder faculty of HKUST who quit MIT after his PhD under Prof Victor Li to join HKUST in 1991. Prof Victor Li then moved to University of Michigan where he was the PhD supervisor of Dr Mishra working in the area of advanced cement composites.

Dr. Mishra has an M. Tech (Structural Engineering) from University of Oklahoma (USA); and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Michigan) in the field of Civil Engineering Materials. In the past, he has held several positions of academic and administrative responsibility like the Dean (Research and Industrial Coordination) at the KIIT University and Principal of JITM Paralakhemundi. He was also a Trustee of CSREM and Director (R&D) of JITM.

Dr. Mishra has worked with national and international organizations including Rocla Technology, Guildford (Australia) and Associated Cement Companies India Limited (ACC).

Dr. Mishra has several publications to his credit and serves as a reviewer for Indian Concrete Journal. He has received several awards such as the Chi-Epsilon honour while at the University of Oklahoma and the Mondialogo award from UNESCO and Damler-Chrysler two years in running (2005-06).

Dr. Mishra is actively involved in development related issues and is the founder president of the Association for India’s Development, Australia Inc. He has been a founder and member of the board of the Sustainable Educational and Economic Development Society (SEEDS) based out of USA. Currently he is the State Advisor of Pratham working in primary education. Most recently he has established his own consulting firm – DKM Consult Pvt Ltd.
